Is it that easy to have happy, engaged, inspired employees when they are working remotely??

Our business environments have changed drastically since Working From Home #WFH has been imposed upon us. A year ago, many businesses were uncertain that flexi-hours, working from home were  good ideas, that it could work! Well, this pandemic has made us all re-think how we work, how can we still deliver exceptional customer experiences with team working remotely!

The problem is keeping employees happy and engaged when they are all on their own is not as easy as it seems. Working in your PJs, or still lying in your bed, or trying to juggle the kids, the dog, the spouse, as well as being productive is certainly not conducive to maximal performances!

Do you know that our environment has a direct effect on our State: our thinking, feeling and behaviour. Environmental psychology, the scientific study of the transactions and interrelationships between people and their physical surroundings, shows why our environment impacts us, how we can leverage that knowledge to our advantage, and what we can do to improve our relationship with the world around us.

So, our environment affects our state and our state affects our behaviour, simple right!! Healthy, harmonious environments mean happy, relaxed, creative employees who feel good which means, motivated, effective with a performing attitude! In reverse, dark, unhealthy, cluttered environment will mean overwhelmed, stressed, procrastinating, disengaged people!

The solution to creating harmonious environment is simple, the Chinese 5,000 years ago were using that method; Feng Shui. Yes, Feng shui is a traditional Eastern philosophy, a belief system in which there is a spiritual relationship between the physical elements of nature and human-made environments to create the right balance of energy for harmony in one’s space. It might not be the first thing that comes to your mind for improving your workplace relationships, but it’s an indirect way to improve feelings and behaviours.

Whether you work from your kitchen table or behind a desk in a home office, you can improve the flow of energy and make your workplace a more inviting and in doing so, improve your overall performances. The purpose of Feng Shui is to make people feel good by promoting an effective use of, not only your space and materials, but an alignment of the flow of energy with your own state.

Showing employees how they can make simple but powerful changes in their environment will maximize their productivity, boost their happiness, and conduce greater creativity without having to cost anything… and we all know the results: happy employees = happy customers = happy bottom line… it can only be a good thing to do!
