The Employee Engagement Task Force, set up by PM David Cameron and which includes academics, consultants and research houses, is publishing the website providing advice, tools and networking opportunities to UK employers.

The website will go live on 26 November and will be accompanied by a series of free workshops across the country. Taskforce co-chairs Nita Clarke and David MacLeod and senior member Louise Beardmore were speaking at EB Live. David MacLeod will be talking about the work of the Task force the following day November 27 at the Customer EngagementSummit run by the Customer Engagement Network (for more details go to www.customerengagementnetwork.com)

MacLeod, who also co-authored the MacLeod Report on employee engagement, said he hoped – “not in a preachy way” – that users would draw on the resource and benefit from it.

Clarke, who is also director of the Involvement and Participation Association, said many would have struggled to spell the words “employee engagement” ten years ago: “Why is this issue so salient? Why has it gone up the agenda?

“I just want to suggest to you that the reason it’s so important is actually the world has changed and those old management paradigms just don’t work anymore.”

A lack of trust in leadership combined with the growth of knowledge-based jobs made engaging the workforce more important than before, she suggested.

As well as the website, the Task Force is encouraging shareholders to value employee engagement in companies and has compiled a list of CEOs who have lent their support to its aims.
