JUST EAT UNVEILS PLANS FOR NEW CHATBOT OFFERING FOOD AND RESTAURANT TIPS TO CUSTOMERS
The tricky decision over which takeaway to have on a Friday night is set to get easier after online delivery firm Just Eat unveiled plans for a new ‘chatbot’ offering food and restaurant tips.
Just Eat said the Facebook Messenger chatbot will “coach and inspire” customers mulling over which food to try as it seeks to broaden itself from a takeaway giant into the “world’s greatest food community”.
The group wants to encourage customers to “find your flavour” – from picnics in the park, pizza at the beach or sushi at work.
It said customers will be able to message its chatbot, “whether they fancy ordering their usual favourite or trying something new, and the bot will offer them a selection of different restaurants they haven’t previously ordered from if that’s where their mood takes them”.
Chief executive David Buttress unveiled the move as part of a revamp that also includes a refreshed brand design, new-look website and app, new jackets for delivery drivers and the first scooters in Europe to carry branded light boxes.
It will also launch an app on the Apple WatchOS 3 and Apple Watch Series 2 smart watches.
A major advertising push will launch the brand overhaul on Friday and it will be rolled out later to the other 12 countries in which Just Eat operates.

“Our new vision – creating the world’s greatest food community – provides us with new focus and momentum to take the business forward.” Just Eat has more than 15.5 million customers and offers deliveries from 62,800 takeaway restaurants in 13 countries.
