From today, London’s iconic, world-leading public transport system is now available in the Uber app. As Uber moves to be a one stop shop for transport, riders in London will now see real time departures under the new feature Public Transport.
The product launches in the capital today and will be rolling out so all Londoners are able to access the new Public Transport feature soon, empowering them to make the best journey choice.
Accessing Public Transport information within the app is easy: after riders enter a destination, they will see ‘Public Transport’ as an option alongside ‘UberX’ and ‘UberPool’. Upon selecting the ‘Public Transport’ option, riders will be able to see fastest routes, real-time schedules, and walking directions to and from stations or bus stops.
A recent poll discovered more than one third (36%) of Uber riders feel they don’t need to take a driving test and 37% feel they don’t need to buy a car.
The Public Transport roll out comes as Uber’s electric JUMP bikes launch in cities across Europe.
Jamie Heywood, Regional General Manager, Northern and Eastern Europe said: “London is home to the world’s most iconic public transport network, and we’re excited to now provide live transit information in the Uber app.
“Over time, it’s our goal to help people replace their car with their phone by offering a range of mobility options – whether cars, bikes, or public transport – all in the Uber app.
David Reich, Head of Transit at Uber said: “With 3.5 million Londoners relying on Uber, we recognise the important responsibilities that come with being a good partner to this great global city.
“We share many of the same goals as the cities that we serve and are committed to addressing the same challenges: reducing individual car ownership, expanding transportation access and tackling air pollution.”
